Established in 2005, the idea for Rob the Mover was born as Rob drove an old beat up pickup truck into Ground Zero. Working for a non-profit, he delivered loads of gloves, boots, masks and food to workers in the zone. When the operation ended, Rob gave the truck to a police officer.
But when gas prices started to rise in 2005, the officer decided the truck was too much of an expense. With the pickup back in his possession, Rob started to make a little extra cash helping people move furniture from place to place. As Rob puts it, “I bought the truck and started placing ads on Craigslist. Soon, I was getting more business than I could handle.” A high school teacher at the time, Rob likened his business to teachers in the Midwest – he grew up in Galesburg IL. – who supplemented their teaching salaries by painting houses, mowing lawns and landscaping.
Over time, Rob learned the tricks of the trade from professional movers, and scaled his business from just himself and a pickup truck to a dozen movers and a couple trucks. Servicing small and medium apartment moves in NYC, Rob the Mover soon became a credible and trustworthy name, earning 60+ five star reviews on Yelp.
Rob now oversees the operation, and will often be the person you connect with on the other end of the phone. He enjoys helping people move and stands by his satisfaction guarantee. “Moving in New York can be stressful. I like to make the process as simple and painless as possible.”
